Chelsea had composure and strength and was dominating the game with pace and command. The ball was quickly going from the defence to the attacking line. In the middle, they were sharp and stopped all Aston Villa attacks in the middle.
On the other hand, Aston Villa was defending, and they defended fantastically. They were constant in defending without any chances in the field.
With Malen playing as a false 9, he was completely silent and had not been a threat. Chelsea was cating in midfield with pressure, tackles, and secures and as stopping Aston Villa attacks completely. Chelsea dominated the play, with composure and firmness in midfield.

There is no psychology; they are going from wide straight to the goal and are creating chances for Watkins, who is a striker, a perfect one. Ole Watkins is a true masterclass player.
Watkins delivered a decisive performance, scoring twice and producing what was arguably his best display of the season. The decisive aspect between the two teams was Ole Watkins.
Villa was far better than Chelsea, creating a few very good chances that Robert Sanchez stopped with great effort. It was visible that Villa would score the second goal. It was quite evident, and then Watkins finished it again.
Chelsea’s substitutions, by contrast, failed to have the desired impact. Maresca introduced Jamie Gittens in place of Alejandro Garnacho, but the change did not improve Chelsea’s attacking threat.
Liam Delap replaced João Pedro, yet struggled to influence the game, especially when compared to Watkins’ efficiency and movement. Chelsea’s midfield issues were also evident. Moisés Caicedo has not been operating well in the past weeks, while Enzo Fernández played again in central midfield. This is his standard position; he was struggling in the past in Palmer’s absence to operate effectively as an attacking midfielder. He missed a crucial shout today and is better in a central midfielder.
The imbalance in midfield contributed to Chelsea’s growing frustration, and that has led Maresca to adapt Reece James, who is so great with the ball, into midfield.
Chelsea has a young team, and they are immature in the middle.
As a young and inexperienced side, Chelsea showed signs of immaturity, committing unnecessary fouls, losing patience when out of possession. They are allowing nerves to dictate their actions rather than structure and discipline. This way, losing the ball puts them under pressure, and they are losing very important and decisive balls and duels, misfiring, and then they are stopping the opponents in the way, which is not allowed. It was very hard what Villa achieved in this match since it is very difficult to play defensively constantly for more than 55 minutes and then be able to score. That is why this Aston Villa team is so special.
Reece James delivered an outstanding performance and was one of Chelsea’s best players on the pitch, particularly in the first half. From the right side, he dictated tempo, showed authority in possession, and repeatedly set the rhythm for Chelsea’s attacking phases.
Chelsea were very great today despite losing. They played a fantastic match, and a part of the defence was great. With this football, played today, they would surely beat and outplay many tough Premier League opponents and would also beat many teams in the Champions League group stages without many problems.
Aston Villa is with great defending, so great defensive orientation and a very good attacking combination, beat Chelsea in a match with both teams that were playing fantastic football. They should have had the true team spirit and effort. They have worked for three points in every minute of the match.
