Here is the list of matches that have already been played in the third round of the FA Cup. The fixtures were played on Saturday and Sunday. There is still one match to be played, and it will take place tomorrow night (Monday) between Liverpool and Barnsley. The defending champions, Crystal Palace, were knocked out in this round after a victory by Mansfield, which was the biggest upset of the week.
Newcastle United once again showed character and, after surprising Leeds in the Premier League, were better than Bournemouth, winning on penalties. Newcastle and their coach, Howe, are very strong in elimination matches, but participating in the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history has left a mark on the team’s performances.
The club has suffered several heavy defeats and its form was not at its best, but it significantly improved during the crucial festive period and is now climbing higher in the league table.
Manchester United lost to Brighton, while Aston Villa outplayed Tottenham, which is a great success for Villa, who are through to the next round of the FA Cup. West Ham United also progressed, Arsenal knocked out Portsmouth, while Manchester City beat Exeter 10–1 in 90 minutes of football.
There is also one more third-round FA Cup fixture to be played. The match, which was supposed to be played on Saturday but was postponed due to the horrible weather, will now be played on Thursday night between Salton and Swindon.
We will also comment on Wolverhampton’s victory over Shrewsbury Town with a very great 6:1 victory that can help the team to avoid relegation in the Premier League.
