“The greatness inside”.

The script was written before a single ball was kicked. Manchester City are the FA Cup champions after a clinical, fully deserved 1:0 victory over Chelsea. A moment of magic from Antoine Semenyo, who flicked the ball home with his heel, secured the domestic cup double (FA Cup and EFL Cup) for the Cityzens as they march toward the Premier League finish line.
While Manchester celebrates, Chelsea stands trapped in the wreckage of its own delusions.
Tactical Horror: Cucurella on the Wing and the Failure of MacFarlane

If anyone still doubted that interim manager MacFarlane was completely out of his depth, the decision to start Marc Cucurella as a winger in an FA Cup Final answered it. Chelsea looked broken, disjointed, and entirely incapable of stringing three passes together in possession.

The team paid the ultimate price for flying too close to the sun in January:
- The Illusion of Progress: Sacking Liam Rosenior brought a temporary “positive shock” against Leeds, but it only masked deep, systemic flaws, which ended with Chelsea just reaching the FA Cup final.
- The January Burnout: While the season hung in the balance, Chelsea needlessly burned energy on five fronts under Rosenior back in January.
- The Psychological Collapse: The heartbreaking exit against PSG and the twin defeats to Arsenal in the EFL Cup completely shattered this squad’s mental stability. On the Wembley pitch, they looked empty.
- The setbacks destroyed the young and not experienced team. They ruined the confidence and belief of the team

Guardiola’s Gamble and Kovacic the “X-Factor”
It wasn’t entirely smooth sailing for City. Pep Guardiola nearly derailed his own masterplan at the start of the second half by taking off Omar Marmoush, which gave Chelsea a brief window to press forward and look dangerous.
However, Pep corrected his mistake in a good manner, and it switched the stability and was essential to the outcome of the finale:

- Error with Rodri wo was bad: He realised starting Rodri in that specific setup wasn’t working.
- The Kovacic Catalyst: Mateo Kovacic entered the pitch, immediately calmed the midfield, and shifted the momentum completely back to City.
Chelsea fell right into the trap. They dropped deep into a low defensive block, but that only gave City’s elite technical players the space to combine. The punishment was severe: a brilliant backheel from Semenyo that left goalkeeper Robert Sanchez completely helpless.

City celebrates a perfect team built on Youth and great talent, while Chelsea awaits Alonso as the only good thing to expect.
Chelsea is in a bad position.

They need to overturn the situation, and it is not easy. Not by a bit, they need to overturn the situation in good with is a hard word and a hard situation to do.

This Manchester City side is terrifying because they are incredibly young yet possess a veteran winning mentality. They have been in outstanding form since March, with their only blemish being the Champions League exit to Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, Chelsea must finally wake up to reality. The season is ending with zero European football. A total summer rebuild now rests on the shoulders of Xabi Alonso—but the Spaniard is inheriting a squad that is currently the definition of distraction and disappointment.
