Bruno Fernandes was officially the best player of the 2025/26 season in a campaign where Arsenal finally won the Premier League title. Despite Arsenal’s triumph, the award for the league’s best individual performer deservedly went to the Manchester United midfielder, who, at 31 years of age, produced the finest football of his career.
After disagreements with former manager Ruben Amorim, Bruno Fernandes looked like a player whose future at Manchester United was uncertain. However, everything changed with the arrival of Michael Carrick.
Under Carrick, Fernandes became the centre of the team again and responded with extraordinary performances throughout the season.
Carrick gave him complete freedom in midfield and built the structure of the team around his qualities. That system also opened space for Kobbie Mainoo, who developed alongside Fernandes instead of competing with him for influence. The balance between youth and experience became one of the biggest strengths of Manchester United’s season.
As the team improved, Carrick increasingly trusted experienced players, and Bruno Fernandes completely dominated matches from midfield. Standing at 1.79 metres, he may not physically overpower opponents, but his intelligence, positioning, movement, and technical quality allowed him to control games in a way very few players in world football can.
Manchester United played some of their best football in years, and Fernandes was the driving force behind it. His passing range, vision, creativity, and decision-making gave the team a completely different dimension. Every attack seemed to flow through him.
He dictated the tempo, created chances constantly, and lifted the entire level of the side around him.
United eventually finished third in the Premier League, not playing European football this season. Returning to the UEFA Champions League is a major achievement for the club next season, and Fernandes was unquestionably the key figure behind that success.
What separates Bruno Fernandes from other midfielders is not only talent, but consistency and intelligence. His technical ability, precision, passing accuracy, leadership, and understanding of the game place him above almost every midfielder in the Premier League today.
While others may match him physically or athletically, very few can compete with the complete package he offers on the pitch.
Compared to most midfielders in the Premier League, Bruno Fernandes looked like he belonged in a completely different category. Much like combat sports divide athletes by weight and size, Fernandes seemed to operate on a higher technical and tactical level than his opponents.
His technical quality, passing precision, decision-making, vision, consistency, and ability to control the tempo of matches often made the difference look unfair. Everything about his game placed him above the majority of midfielders in the Premier League during the 2025/26 season.
This season, Bruno Fernandes looked different from everybody else. Not just better — but on another level entirely.
